測量法（昭和二十四年六月三日法律第百八十八号）

Survey Act (Act No. 188 of June 3, 1949)

（１）　目的（第一章　第一条）

(1) Purpose (Chapter I, Article 1)

国若しくは公共団体が費用の全部若しくは一部を負担し、若しくは補助して実施する土地の測量又はこれらの測量の結果を利用する土地の測量について、その実施の基準及び実施に必要な権能を定め、測量の重複を除き、並びに測量の正確さを確保するとともに、測量業を営む者の登録の実施、業務の規制等により、測量業の適正な運営とその健全な発達を図り、各種測量の調整及び測量制度の改善発達に資することを目的とする。

The Survey Act applies to land surveys whose expenses are, wholly or in part, borne or subsidized by the National Government or public organizations, or land surveys that are carried out using the results obtained from such surveys. The purpose of this Act is to set the standard for such land surveys as stated above, to define the power necessary for their execution, to avoid redundancy in surveys, and to assure survey accuracy. This Act also aims to contribute to fair operations and development of survey business, by regulating business activities and requiring registration of survey companies. Finally, this Act aims to contribute to coordination among various kinds of surveys and development of the survey system in Japan.

（２）　測量の基準（第一章　第十一条）

(2) Survey Standards (Chapter I, Article 11)

基本測量及び公共測量を実施する場合の測量の基準として、位置並びに距離及び面積の表示方法、測量の原点等を定める。

As a standard for implementing a basic survey and public survey, this Article provides for a position, distance, indication means of area and the datum station of a survey, etc.

（３）　基本測量（第二章　第十二条－第三十一条）

(3) Basic surveys (Chapter II, Article 12 to 31)

基本測量（すべての測量の基礎となる測量で、国土地理院の行うもの）に関する長期計画の策定、実施手続、実施のための権能、測量標の保全、測量成果の公開手続等を定める。

These Articles provide for the formulation of long-term plans, implementation procedures, the power necessary for the implementation, maintenance of survey markers and publication procedures for the survey results, etc. with regard to a basic survey (an underlying survey for all surveys, and that are conducted by the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan).

（４）　公共測量（第三章　第三十二条－第四十五条）

(4) Public surveys (Chapter III, Article 32 to 45)

公共測量（その実施に要する費用の全部又は一部を国又は公共団体が負担し、又は補助して実施する測量及び国土交通大臣が指定する測量）に関する計画、実施手続、実施のための権能、測量標の保全、測量成果の審査、測量成果の公開手続等を定める。

These Articles provide for a plan, implementation procedures, the power necessary for the implementation, maintenance of survey markers, review of the survey results and publication procedures for the survey results, etc. with regard to a public survey (a survey to which the government or public institutions bear or support a partial or all of the necessary cost, or a survey that Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism specifies).

（５）　基本測量及び公共測量以外の測量（第四章　第四十六条・第四十七条）

(5) Other surveys than basic and public surveys (Chapter IV, Article 46 and 47)

基本測量及び公共測量以外の測量の届出義務、測量成果の提出等を定める。

These Articles provide for notification obligation for other surveys than a basic survey and public survey and submission of the survey results, etc.

（６）　測量士及び測量士補（第五章　第四十八条－第五十四条）

(6) Surveyor and Assistant Surveyor (Chapter V, Article 48 to 54)

技術者として基本測量又は公共測量に従事する測量士又は測量士補の資格要件、登録手続等を定める。

These Articles provide for the qualification requirements and registration procedures, etc. for a surveyor or assistant surveyor engaging in a basic survey or public survey as technical personnel.

（７）　測量業者（第六章　第五十五条－第五十九条）

(7) Survey company (Chapter VI, Article 55 to 59)

測量業者の登録等の手続、業務処理の原則、測量業者に対する監督の実施等を定める。

These Articles provide for the procedures for registration, etc. for a survey company, operational principle, and implementation of supervision, etc. over a survey company.

（８）　補則（第七章　第五十九条の二・第六十条）

(8) Auxiliary Provisions (Chapter VII, Article 59-2 and Article 60)

権限の委任及び法定受託事務の区分を定める。

These rticles provide for delegation of authority and classification of legal consignment affairs.

（９）　罰則　（第八章　第六十一条－第六十六条）

(9) Penal provisions (Chapter VIII, Article 61 to 66)

この法律の規定に違反した場合等の罰則を定める。

These articles provide for penal provisions applicable to acts in violation of the provisions of this Act.
